Configure Channels

Identification

 

The “Identification” section of this menu gives you the ability to configure the identity of the data point channels as you see fit.  The eight (8) descriptors that R&D provides you are:

Identifier

Unique Identifier for the channel.

 

Type:

Alphanumeric

Max Length:

32 Characters

Excluded:

Unassigned

Note:

This identifier can be any alphanumeric that you choose, i.e., CH0001, Refrigerator-1, Incubator, etc.  However, whatever system is used, each one must be unique.

 Unit Type

Type of Unit (refrigerator, freezer, incubator, etc.) this channel monitors.

Department

The Department that this channel belongs to.

The Campus where this channel is located.

Sensor Configuration

 

The “Sensor Configuration” section of this menu gives you the ability to provide information about the type of sensor being used for the channel.  The six (6) descriptors that R&D provides you are:

Sensor Type

Type of Sensor being used for the channel.

Eng. Unit

The Engineering Unit of measurement of the channel .

Serial #

Serial Number of the sensor being used for the channel. (Optional)

Expected

The Expected normal value of the channel.

 

Type:

The “Scale Factors” section displays information received from the calibration of the channel.  In general, the operator cannot change these values.  They are updated by the system at the completion of each calibration of the channel.  Thus, this information is usually only displayed for reference purposes.  

 

NOTE:  Changing the Sensor Type will reset these values to their factory defaults for that sensor and the channel will need to be calibrated!

Zero

The Zero value of the sensor.  Used for calibrating the sensor.

Scale

The Scale value of the sensor.  Used for calibrating the sensor.

Alarm Settings

 

The "Alarm Settings" section provides the user with access to and control over several aspects of the alarms associated with a channel.

 

Alarm Template

Alarm Template used to configure the alarm settings for this channel.  

 

Note:  Selecting an Alarm Template will set all of the alarm settings to the new values contained in the Alarm Template except for Difference Channel and Difference Value which must be set per channel.  All of the other alarm settings except for Alarm Enabled and Alarm Time Enabled will be marked as read only and can not be changed while an Alarm Template is set.  To make a change to an alarm setting, the Alarm Template must be set to "Unassigned".  This will clear the read only status of the alarm settings.

Alarm Enabled

Alarm Enabled checkbox used to enable or disable all of the alarming functionality for this channel.

Alarming Disabled for this channel

 

Alarm Time Matrix

24 x 7 Alarm Time Matrix used to enable or disable alarming based on time of day and day of week.

 

Note:  The Alarm Time Matrix can be enabled or disabled by checking or clearing the Alarm Time Enabled checkbox.

Alarm Time Enabled

Alarm Time Enabled checkbox used to enable or disable all of the Alarm Time Matrix functionality for this channel.

Difference Channel

Difference Channel used to trigger an alarm based upon a difference in value between this channel and the selected Difference Channel.  

 

Note:  Set to "Unassigned" to disable the Difference Alarm functionality of this channel.

 

Difference Value

The absolute value of the difference between this channel and the selected Difference Channel that must be exceeded to trigger a Difference Alarm for this channel.

 

Note:  Set to 0 (Zero) to disable the Difference Alarm functionality of this channel.

Suspend Alarm

Temporarily suspends alarms and warnings for this channel until the entered date and time.

 

Date:

MM/DD/YY or use the Calendar Popup. Clear this field to disable the Suspend Alarm feature.

Time:

HH:mm (24 hour clock) or use the Time Picker Popup. Clear this field to disable the Suspend Alarm feature.

Notes:

Entered Date and Time must be later than the current Date and Time.

 

Low Alarm Set Point

The Low Alarm Set Point of this channel.

 

Note:  Functions in conjunction with the Low Alarm Delay time of this channel.

Low Alarm Delay

The Low Alarm Delay time (minutes) of this channel sets how long the value of the channel must be equal to or less than the Low Alarm Set Point of this channel in order for a Low Alarm to be triggered.

Low Alarm Reset

The Low Alarm Reset time (minutes) of this channel sets how long the value of the channel must be greater than the Low Alarm Set Point of this channel in order for a Low Alarm to recover.

Low Warn Set Point

The Low Warn Set Point of this channel.

 

Note:  Functions in conjunction with the Low Warn Delay time of this channel.

Low Warn Delay

The Low Warn Delay time (minutes) of this channel sets how long the value of the channel must be equal to or less than the Low Warn Set Point of this channel in order for a Low Warning to be triggered.

Low Warn Reset

The Low Warn Reset time (minutes) of this channel sets how long the value of the channel must be greater than the Low Warn Set Point of this channel in order for a Low Warning to recover.

Low Force Alarm Set Point

The Low Force Alarm Set Point of this channel.  If this set point is reached then the Low Alarm Delay time of this channel will be bypassed and a Low Force Alarm will be immediately triggered.

Low Rewarn Value

The Low Rewarn Value of this channel sets how much further below the Low Alarm Set Point of this channel the value must reach in order for a Low Rewarn to be triggered.  Used to prevent runaway conditions.

Low Alarm Echo Time

The Low Alarm Echo time (minutes) of this channel sets how long the value of the channel must be equal to or less than the Low Alarm Set Point of this channel after a Low Alarm has sounded in order for a Low Alarm Echo to be triggered.  Used as a reminder that the channel is still in a Low Alarm state.

The High Alarm Set Point of this channel.

High Alarm Echo Time

The High Alarm Echo time (minutes) of this channel sets how long the value of the channel must be equal to or greater than the High Alarm Set Point of this channel after a High Alarm has sounded in order for a High Alarm Echo to be triggered.  Used as a reminder that the channel is still in a High Alarm state.

Alarm Message

The Alarm Message text box allows you to append an additional custom Alarm Message to Phone, Email, and Text Message Alarm Notifications for this Channel.

Notification Settings

 

The “Notification Settings” section of this menu gives you the ability to configure the Notification parameters of the data point channels as you see fit.  The five (5) parameters that R&D provides you are:

 

Notification Schedule

24 x 7 Notification Schedule used to set which Notification List is used based on time of day and day of week.

 

Note:  All Notification (Phone, Email and Text Message) functionality for this channel will be disabled by setting the value to "Unassigned".

Alarm Notification checkbox used to enable or disable all of the Notification (Phone, Email and Text Message) functionality for Alarms for this channel.

Warn Notification checkbox used to enable or disable all of the Notification (Phone, Email and Text Message) functionality for Warnings for this channel.

Message Center

The Message Center used to display Alarm and Warning messages for this channel.

 

Note:  The Message Center functionality for this channel will be disabled by setting the value to "Unassigned".

Message Center Contact

The Message Center Contact name displayed on the Message Center during Alarm and Warning messages for this channel.  Used as a quick point of reference for displaying the person responsible for the channel during an Alarm or Warning state.

 

Note:  The Message Center Contact may be left as "Unassigned" if you wish for no point of contact name to be displayed on the Message Center.

Notes

 

The “Notes” section of this menu gives you the ability to add custom Notes regarding the channels as you see fit.  Additionally, when the channel is not in Add or Update mode, the latest Calibration information will be displayed in the Notes box.
